Yoga Teacher Training & The Soul

When I took my yoga teacher training program (ytt) we learned about the soul. My soul is something that is intangible and invisible. No one has seen it or touched it but we know that it exists. Not everyone may believe in the existence of the soul, but I know for myself that I believe in it.

Buddhism

I am not sure if this is from the learning of Buddhism, I have this belief that when a person or any living thing dies, their body dies but their soul lives because the soul and the body are two different things.

We may forget all the memories from the previous lives. But our soul has changed the body many times and it has lived a long course of life.

For example, I believe that even my grandparents have deceased, their existence of soul is still with me sometimes and they are looking after me. I think by believing in the existence of the soul, it saves us from mourning.

Conversation

Also, when I miss them and want to talk to them, I still can. Some people say this is all imaginary, but for me it works and even though I can’t have a conversation with them, I still love that they are there to listen to me when I want to.

For my own soul, I believe that it is something beyond my control; it is something that was given to me before birth.

Children

Some very young children have memories from their previous life, but we all forget them when we grow up. And I believe that my soul had lived in other bodies before me and they had different lives in different place, era, etc.

Also, I believe that everything my soul has gone through in its previous lives have given me advantages for my life.

This means that I am also feeding my soul to be passed on to the next body in the future and that I should feed it with as many meaningful things as possible.

Clean

Because I have been passed on a beautiful clean soul, I am going to feed it with more beautiful and kind experiences in my time. I believe that yoga is one of them that can help me achieve that.

Yoga works as a cleanser of the soul; it helps me to clear my mind that’s distracted by an evil spirit. Although I try to be kind, there are times that I experience bad side of me.

Mind

By doing yoga, I can reflect on my mind, and I can face the fact that I am experiencing the bad side of me. Although I cannot completely diminish it, I can still control and manage to not affect my mind or my actions.
