Yoga Myths: The Skinny!

There are some facts about yoga teacher training that many don’t know, many that some do know, and untrue facts as well.

Myths #1: Got To Contortionist

You don’t need to be able to sit like a pretzel or be able to do a handstand to become a yoga teacher.

Although asanas are a portion of yoga teacher training, it is not the only thing. Lots of people think that all yoga teachers are perfect and can do all poses perfectly.

 

It’s like how as children we look upto adults as these people that know everything and are these incredible species, when we soon find out that as adults, we’re all just over sized children trying to find our way in the world.

Some are just better at hiding it then others. With both, being an adult, and being a yoga teacher, we learn as we grow, and we grow as we learn! It’s all a journey that takes one step at a time and patience to get anywhere.

Myth #2: Got Be Religious

You don’t need to be a religious or spiritual person, but you do need to be willing to learn about different religious and spiritual beliefs.

It is important to start yoga teacher training with an open heart, and an open mind. You need to be ready to learn about beliefs, and philosophies that may be very different then your own. It’s okay to not agree with everything that you are learning, but the important part is to be willing to learn, and to see other points of view.

Myth #3: Must Want To Know All About Poses

Take your time to decide when and where you are going to start your yoga teacher training. It will be an important and defining time in your life, that will impact you in all sorts of ways.

Make sure to take time for yourself and to care for your mental and physical wellbeing, because it will be a journey, and you want to care for yourself so you can soak up all of the information and take it all in. Remember that you are not doing it for anyone else but yourself, this is a time to get to know yourself better, and find yourself in this busy and noisy world. When you are ready to take the leap, you will never regret this time.
