Enlightenment
The definition of Enlightenment is the “full comprehension of a situation”. The term is commonly used to explain The Age of Enlightenment but is also used in a religious context by western cultures. Translating in several Buddhist terms and concepts like, bodhi, kensho and satori. Other related terms include Moksha (liberation) in Hinduism, Jnana in Jainism, and ushta in Zoroastrianism.
More Definition
The definition of enlightenment in the western world in modern terms is the action of enlightening or the state of being enlightened/ to have or showing a rational, modern, and well-informed outlook/ to be spiritually aware.
Having done Yoga teacher training everywhere in Canada, Vancouver, Victoria, Kamloops, Banff, Jasper, Calgary, Edmonton, Hamilton, Regina, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, London, Halifax, St Johns, I can say to me Enlightenment means the gaining and obtaining of knowledge that betters oneself. I believe finding oneself, one’s’ true self, but only in the context of being honest with who you truly are as a person, is the only way one can become enlightened.
Sanskrit
I prefer the Sanskrit word, Mukti which means to let loose or to let go. To just be oneself and not listen to modern day chatter about how one should act or not act. What things we should or shouldn’t do (within reason of not causing harm to others).
Personal Meaning
They say in yoga philosophy that enlightenment is also something that we’ve simply forgotten. That seems true that when one meditates or when I am meditating personally.
I sense this truth coming over me when I’m able to go within and to block the external world out I feel as the years of doing yoga and meditating I, in the beginning, thought that what I was experiencing was something new, but I’ve grown to understand this saying, and I believe that all I am doing when doing yoga and meditating is going back to something. That has been cloaked intentionally for me to discover.
That there is one true reality, an unlimited consciousness. Which at the end of the day is love.
